Dawn Patrol
When I look back on the work I created in 2016, this little series stands out as one of my favorites. I think these pieces will always hold a special place in my heart, and I'm so thrilled that each one has found a home. When I began painting the bases for these pieces, I had a very clear idea of what I wanted to capture with them. Growing up on and around lakes and ocean fronts, I've become very familiar with those early magical hours where sheets of fog lift off the water, waking up the world softly and slowly. Dawn Patrol is a series inspired by that early morning atmosphere surrounding a body of water - the undulating movement and organic forms of the water, the layers of transparency established by misty air, and the breaking of early light upon its surface. It's an exploration of that elusive atmosphere and an effort to capture and hold it close for those few moments, before it slips away - disappearing as softly as it arrived.
