British Columbia // Round 2
Put simply, my second trip to British Columbia did not disappoint.
Last fall I flew up to Canada to visit my brother during his pilot training at BC Helicopters, and I was lucky enough to return this year for another dose of inspiration.
Every time I travel, I’m reminded of how important it is for my studio practice. Breaking the routines of day-to-day life , I’m able to fill my brain with fresh images, cataloguing places and experiences to revisit later.
British Columbia is a place where you can feel its immensity. From forests of towering red cedars to granite peaks stacked to the sky, the landscape is a true display of wonders that command your attention.
Banking and hovering among massive mountains, seeing British Columbia via helicopter offered a surreal perspective. I soaked in the views stretched before me - tumbling cliffside dotted with evergreen, winding rivers, sparkling alpine lakes and cascading waterfalls - every moment offered something to discover.
At an elevation of 5,300 feet, we landed to explore an ice cave hidden among rocky peaks blanketed in snow. Walls of ice dripped from above, beautifully sculpted in shades of blue. Our voices echoed through the pristine silence, completely in awe of this British Columbia gem.
Along with the granite pebbles tucked into my suitcase, I brought home with me a reminder of the indescribable wonder and optimism found in open skies and expansive views. I was excited to get painting again, recalling all the nooks and creases of the land, shimmering waters and crisp bursts of evergreen air… Small details that compile to create immeasurable beauty.
