"Where You Are" - About The Collection
I think the richest moments are uncovered when you are fully present in your surroundings. Absorbing color, texture, sound, movement - all of the layers that compile to create that place. These are the moments I revisit in my studio.
This collection was formed over the course of summer, right after I moved into my new space at Oyé Studios. Taking time to wander and gather fresh images and experiences, I’ve been thinking a lot about paying attention. These paintings were born from moments getting lost in summer’s evening skies, as warm sherbet hues sink into the cool of the night. They are the weightless joy of floating in the clear waters of a lake and sinking bare feet into the rush of a river. They are the chorus of cicadas and rustling trees that form the songs of summer, playing on repeat while you sway in a hammock.
Wrapping threads upon my panel is a thoughtful process. It encourages me to slow down and consider how each fiber will interact with the textured moment beneath. Stretching across the painting like a horizon line, each strand of thread becomes an invitation to pause. To find rhythms and rest in the space between. To find balance and a deep breath. Each painting becomes an invitation to be fully present in where you are.
